Lyons also reportedly discussed using AI to "free up bed space" and "fill up airplanes" and mentioned working with Elon Musk's DOGE to gain access to social security numbers to look for "voter fraud."

Also at the convention were Trump's "border czar," Tom Homan, and the secretary of the US Department of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, who both praised Trump's controversial invocation of the Alien Enemies Act — a law dating back to 1798 and most recently used during World War II to intern Japanese Americans — for facilitating the deportation of Venezuelan nationals.

Now, Trump's head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Todd Lyons, told a crowd at the 2025 Border Security Expo in Phoenix, Arizona, that he would like his agency to round up immigrants for deportation similar to how Amazon Prime quickly delivers packages across the country.

"We need to get better at treating this like a business," he said, according to the Arizona Mirror, which first reported on the story. He continued, saying that he would like the deportation process to function "like [Amazon] Prime, but with human beings."

In response to Lyons's remark, many have criticized it as deeply inhumane.

"totally normal way to speak about other human beings," one person wrote.

"absolutely disgusting how people at the helm of the world are able to make comments like this about HUMAN BEINGS!!!! shame on trump & shame on the US government," someone else said.
